Our digestion starts from our mouth. The enzyme amylase in saliva breaks down starches (complex carbohydrates) into sugars which your body can easily absorb. Lipase breaks down fats. The food then reaches the esophagus, travels to the stomach, large intestine, small intestine, rectum and passes out through anus. All these organs starting from mouth and ending at anus having one entry and one exit, together makes GUT.
Gut has a fine lining in it’s wall, this lining has microscopic holes. When food is in the process of digestion in the gut, the nutrients from the food are filtered in blood through the pores in the wall/lining and that is how variety of nutrients are supplied to the complete body. The toxins, large particles of food and proteins come out from the anus once the digestion is completely over. When you eat more carbohydrates, processed carbohydrates and keep on munching all day, it loads your Gut and its functions.
What Are Processed Carbohydrates?
Chips, cookies, chocolates, tinned fruits, snacks with high sodium, high sugar, refined flour, home made fried snacks, puris, pakodas, Indian sweets and snacks, fried and roasted nuts all are full of trans fats. In big food industries or back at home when high sodium sugar containing snacks are fried, the oil remains of heat for a long time and turns to trans fats. Sometimes you read a term- “Partially Hydrogenated” on a packet of snacks. This is a sophisticated synonym for trans fats. Avoid all of them and also home-made snacks.
What Is Munching?
Between two meals there is no discipline. After breakfast till your lunch there should be an appropriate gap of 5 hrs and the similar gap should be between lunch and dinner. In between any of these meals you eat anything, no matter how small a portion that may be, that will be considered as a meal by the Gut & it gets loaded. Except a fruit, water, lemon tea and green tea no solids should be consumed in between the meals. Now you can easily understand the term “Munching”. If munching continues, the digestion which might be under the process in the Gut gets distracted & the purpose of supplying nutrients through your previous meal is hampered. Some portion of breakfast stays undigested if you munch in between breakfast and lunch. It stays in colon for a long time creating load of pathogens.
In our Gut there are trillions and trillions of good bacteria/micro-organisms which increase the nutritive value of your food and help the Gut to digest food properly. But due to low cost food and munching habits the microbiome gradually weakens and the gut lining also starts getting damaged. The microscopic holes/pores in the lining enlarge and the toxins, large food particles, garbage from your food starts entering blood as well as in the entire body. This problem is called “Leaky Gut”.
You start experiencing constipation, loose motions, acid reflux, IBS, burning in stomach, acidity, continuous bloating, burping, gastric trouble and farting. Bloated mid-section of body, swelled ankles, heels and fingers is experienced by the evening on a daily basis. This is how your gut tries to tell you to go for it’s rescue. But you overlook and follow the course of antibiotics which further kills your good bacteria in majority, raising the number of bad bacteria/pathogens.
